What's the role about

  • Draw on your analytical, strategy, solution design, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Work with the account management team and the client directly to understand the client’s overall business objectives and strategies.
  • Work with the wider Journey team to design, develop and deliver solutions for a variety of digital projects.
  • Analyse a range of research and user data to deliver actionable insights.
  • Conceptualise a solution from initial discovery through to high-fidelity clickable prototypes for user testing.
  • Deliver wireframes, workflow diagrams and IA maps.
  • Hold a senior client-facing role.
  • Prepare and lead UX workshops for internal teams, clients and external stakeholders.
  • Bring design concepts to life.
  • Be a thought-leader within Journey.
  • Lead presentations to multiple audience types, and understand how to message to each.
  • Collaborate with other members of our UX/UI design team across New Zealand, UK and the Philippines.
  • Help to mentor members of our Strategy & Design team.
  • Be a staunch brand guardian for Journey.

About you

  • At heart you are a ‘design thinker’ who has a deep empathy for users and can challenge assumptions, redefine problems and come up with creative and innovative solutions to prototype and test.
  • You are also a ‘system thinker’ who can see beyond the problem at hand and consider the interplay between different parts of the system (e.g. you know when a change in one area might impact the whole project).
  • You have an understanding of different methodologies for understanding users’ pain points, and translating those into design opportunities by applying user-centred and inclusive design principles.
  • You have experience running cross-functional workshops to generate design ideas and gain buy-in from stakeholders.
  • You are confident presenting to C-suite stakeholders.
  • You are able to articulate a design strategy or approach that will impact the user experience across products or platforms and support your ideas with sound reasoning and/or data.
  • You plan and execute research for discovery as well as validation phases of product life-cycle and are as comfortable with big picture strategy as you are with the minutia of feature-level usability testing.
  • As a UX Lead on a Scrum team, you have the ability to translate discovery research, behavioural analytics, product vision, and usability studies into a concise design strategy and acceptance criteria.
  • You will be excited to work with product designers and product managers to envision, rapidly prototype and iterate on different concepts.
  • You are a true UX specialist with good understanding of mobile and web interaction patterns.
  • You have experience designing – from user experience journeys to create functional and delightful designs.
  • You will have respect for others and their ideas, openness to receive input and changing your ideas if required, and a positive attitude.
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • You You'll have strong attention-to-detail.
  • You’ll thrive on a challenge and hold a strong passion for UX and human-centred design.


Your background:

  • 7+ years working as a UX Strategist or comparable role creating websites, applications and/or mobile experiences.
  • 2–3+ years leading projects, and determining the level of UX support, planning, design, and strategy needed.
  • You will have spent at least some of your career working within an agency (e.g. digital, creative, advertising).
  • You will ideally have experience working within a Scrum framework.
  • You must have an online portfolio showcasing research or strategy assets, bonus points if you show the process of hand-drawings to wireframes.
  • Proficiency in a suite of tools to achieve your project goals, which will include, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Miro, etc.
